A National Movement for Safer Roads
The Problem:
Road safety remains one of Uganda’s most pressing public health challenges. The Ministry of Health and Police statistics confirm that over 4,000 lives are lost and over 25,000 crashes occur annually. The majority of victims are youth and motorcycle riders (boda-bodas). This public health crisis is exacerbated by low awareness and limited public engagement.
The Solution:
The GENDA MPOLA Challenge is designed to transform the Luganda phrase “Genda Mpola” (Go slow) into a nationwide creative movement for road safety. We are building a new approach that combines enforcement support with popular culture, youth creativity, and mass mobilization.

How to Participate (Creative Challenge)
Public participation is at the heart of the campaign. We invite you to be the voice of road safety!
- Composer & Performer: Download the official campaign beat and compose an original verse or remix in any language or genre (Amapiano, Afrobeat, Reggae, Hip-hop, etc.)
- Video Creator & Skit Maker: Produce a skit or short film using the campaign sounds or your favourite submission. Post your video on social media, tag us, and use the official hashtag: #GendaMpolaChallenge.
- Submission: Submit your entry using the button below to be considered for prizes and recognition at the Road Safety Excellence Awards
